It’s a Wonderful Life
Deseret Book DVD Signing Sold Out in 15 min
Monday, September 28, 2009
When Mark, Camille and Anna showed up at the Deseret Book in Midvale, Utah to kick off the release of Baby Boomerang, they were met by Frank the store manager. “He told us not to expect much traffic on a Monday,” Camille recounts. “And then he let us know that signings are typically not very well attended, even for well known authors.”
“So don’t be discouraged if only a handful of people show up. That’s very typical,” Frank warned.
“So I was prepared to play games on my iPhone for the next two hours,” Mark recalls. “But surprisingly, before we were scheduled to begin, a small line started to form and within 15 minutes we had sold out of the 25 copies the store had on hand.”
They just kept coming and coming and Mark kept sending Camille out to the car to get more DVDs and the store kept restocking the selves.
“It was just like the end of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ when everyone shows up at Jimmy Stewart's house and starts giving him money.”
And it never let up. They sold 56 within the first first two hours. “And then a half hour after we left I got a call from the store asking us to come back and sell them 30 more DVDs to tie them over until the end of the week when their next order comes in.”

Just a few of the people who showed up:
(Luckily Mark had a few in his car)
“Most everyone I met expressed a family connection with WWII very similar to my own. It was very moving for me to listen to people’s stories.”
-Mark Arnett-
“I got to met Kay, a B-17 pilot who completed all of his missions and came home safe and sound. Unfortunately not all of his friends did.”
-Mark Arnett-
“I was signing away and suddenly a man handed me a handful of pictures of my family in Japan that we had never seen before. I looked up and there was Les Nash (above), our next door neighbor in Japan during the three years we were there. And then Clee Wright (below) showed up and brought more pictures of family from Biloxi, Mississippi. I was thrilled.
-Anna Laurene Arnett-
“My favorite cousin Barbara drove up from Kearns to see me. I was so excited that I didn’t get pictures of everyone like I wanted to.”
